About
Casey Bourke aka Print Gurl is best known for her glitch-tastic, brightly colored pixel paintings; a reflection of her experience with Internet Culture. Her overall artistic goal is to celebrate femininity, explore the effects of the internet on modern sexuality and to document her experience with digital communication.
Casey works as a graphic designer when she’s not immersed in her oil paintings, and the digital aspect of graphic communication is heavily prevalent in her paintings. She take the calculated, mathematical concept of pixel art and transposes it onto a wooden panel that she builds in her studio. Square by square, inch by inch, the pixel portraits start come to life. Sometimes it takes a squint to reveal the censored, yet familiar subject.
It’s important for her to share her respect for the power of the Internet — some of her greatest relationships started online — but to also mimic the darker side; mocking the objectification of women, and dehumanizing sex and relationships. Yet, there is a glimpse of humor, and light-heartedness in her work, using pastel colors and bold visual images making it pleasing to the eye.
